ECE Resources and my own additions...
For this assignment, I posted all of the resources from this week's resource list. On top of that, we needed to research and post three additional resources that were not included. I have created a page titled "ECE Resources" that will have all the resources listed. For my additional resources, I decided to focus on the military family for two of my resources (since my family is a military family). I posted www.militaryonesource.com which is a website that is designed to help a military family in all aspects including education and childcare. The other website www.nmfa.org is a wonderful website (National Military Family Association) that is designed to assist in MANY areas of struggles with children: stress during deployments, childcare, children struggling in school during stressful times, depression. These are all areas that are very difficult to deal with living in the military family. The last resource is from a book that I have personally read, Secret Thoughts of an Adoptive Mother. This is an amazing book that is full of raw emotion, honesty, and humor relating to the challenges and personal struggles of adoption. This is an area that we do not focus on a lot sometimes in Early Childhood Education, but we need to sometimes. Adoption, interracial adoption, etc. bring its own diversity and cultural differences within our profession that we need to address and focus on when working closely with families. This book really takes you into depth of the personal journey of an adoptive mother. This book had me laughing and crying throughout it!!! I hope some of you will check this book out...It is one of those books that you will probably either love or hate...because Jana Wolff (the author) doesn't sugar coat the sensitive issues and she lays all of her brutal honesty on the line! I hope you all find some use in these additional resources! :)

Hi Julie. I love your additional resources. Since I am not from a military family I often over look how difficult it must be for young children and their parents. Your resources seem like they would be extremely beneficial to anyone working in the field of early childhood as well as their parents. Mary
ReplyDeleteJulie,
ReplyDeleteI totally agree that we donot pay the attention that we should be paying for the military families. I do appreciate your chices so much. I know I am struggling with finding time to read additional books but I wrote down the name of the book and author for my Summer. I am excited about it. thank you for sharing.
